Maria Baranova

Principal

Maria Baranova was born in 1992 in Finland where she first started training with the Helsinki Dance Institute. In 2008, she took part at the prestigious competition Prix de Lausanne and received an invitation from the renowned artistic director John Neumeier to join the Hamburg Ballet School with a scholarship. From 2009 to 2011 performed with the Hamburg Ballet various soloist and principal roles and was in many original casts of Neumeiers new creations. In 2011, at the age of 19 she became a principal at the Finnish National Ballet where she danced until 2015. From 2015 to 2019 was the First Soloist at the Boston Ballet in America. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, she joined the Bayerisches Staatsballett as principal.

  • Eric Bruhn Prize, Toronto, Canada 2011 
  • Silver medal of the senior female division at the International Ballet Competition Ballet Competition in Helsinki, Finland 2012
