Jörg Mannes

Jörg Mannes was born in Vienna in 1969. At the age of eight, he started his ballet training at the ballet school of the Wiener Staatsoper, he completed it in Monte Carlo, London and New York. In 1985 he became a member of ballet with the Wiener Staatsoper. In 1988, a Rudolf Nurejev-scholarship enabled him to dance with the Opéra de Paris for six months. Three years later, in 1991 he went to Heinz Spoerli at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as a soloist. He danced in choreographies by Frederick Ashton, August Bournonville, George Balanchine, John Cranko, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Léonide Massine, John Neumeier, Rudolf Nurejev, Heinz Spoerli, Rudi van Dantzig and Hans van Manen, among others. He had his debut as a choreographer in Düsseldorf in 1994 and worked as a guest choreographer in Montréal and Indianapolis, for the Bolschoi Theater Moscow, the Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe and the Bayerische Staatsballett Munich. He was chief choreographer at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven from 2001 until 2004 and at the Landestheater Linz from 2004 until 2006, when he went to the Staatsoper Hannover as ballet director with the beginning of the 2006/07 season. After thirteen successful years in Hannover and the creation of nearly 30 full-length ballet productions, Jörg Mannes now works as a choreographer for ballet companies and dance ensembles all over the globe.
