Shortly after its successful European Concert Tour the Bayerisches Staatsorchster with its General Music Director Kirill Petrenko wins the title "Orchestra Of The Year".  The award is the result of the critics survey 2016 conducted by the magazine OPERNWELT.
With this years award The Bayerisches Staatsorchester receives the prize for three times in a row now.

The readers say: Bayerische Staatsoper is "Opera House Of The Year"
In the annual OPERNWELT survey, the Bayerische Staatsoper and its artists were honoured in several categories. The participating critics did also praise numerous artists who are closely connected with the Bayerische Staatsoper. Barrie Kosky (2015/16: new production of Der feurige Engel) was elected „Director Of The Year“ and Christian Gerhaher became “Singer Of The Year”. South Pole by Miroslav Srnka und Tom Holloway (world premiere in January 2016, led by Kirill Petrenko) was listed several times as most important world premiere.
After the Bayerische Staatsoper was elected „Opera House Of The Year“ by the critics in 2014, the audiences and readers have now voted for Bayerische Staatsoper and made the institution the winner in this category. General Music Director Kirill Petrenko, who has been elected „Conductor Of The Year“ four times already by the critics, was given most votes by the readers this time. In addition, the audience honoured Barrie Kosky and stage designer Rebecca Ringst (2015/16: stage design for Der feurige Engel and La Juive). Male and Female “Singer Of The Year” are Anja Harteros (2015/16: premiere of Un ballo in maschera a.o.) and Jonas Kaufmann (2015/16: premiere of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg a.o.) – opera’s perfect couple from Munich.
