Summer break at the Bayerisches Staatsballett

With an attendance of 98 percent the Bayerisches Staatsballett had its best season to date - this also represents an increase of 3 percent compared to the 2016/17. On the whole the company presented 14 productions in 70 performances, and Igor Zelensky successfully acquired the international renowned choreographers Christian Spuck and Wayne McGregor for new productions for the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
The Bayerisches Staatsballett thanks one and all for the wonderful cooperation during the season, and wishes you a beautiful and relaxing summer break. We are here for you again from 3 September 2018.
The 2018/19 season will open on 1 October 2018 as part of the Bayerische Staatsoper's anniversary festival week with Christian Spuck's Anna Karenina.

The 2018/19 season also brings promotions to the company: Henry Grey is promoted from Corps de Ballet dancer to soloist. Dmitrii Vyskubenko, Emilio Pavan and Jinhao Zhang also become first soloists. The new first soloist Elvina Ibraimova already joined us in March 2018. The Corps de Ballet was expanded in April 2018 with Florian Ulrich Sollfrank and Evgeniya Victory Gonzalez. Along with Sergei Polunin, Natalia Osipova and Vladimir Shklyarov, in 2018/19 Ashley Bouder from the New York City Ballet and Ivan Vasiliev, who most recently danced as a guest with the American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Theatre, can be enjoyed on the stage of the Nationaltheater. Further information and exact dates for guest appearances still to be announced.
Leaving the ensemble are principals Tigran Mikayelyan – who is retiring at the end of the season – and Alejandro Virelles González, who will now join the Staatsballett Berlin. We will also say farewell to first soloist Erik Murzagaliyev, who goes to Oslo to join the Norwegian National Ballet. First soloist Alexander Omelchenko and soloist Evgenia Dolmatova will also leave the Bayerisches Staatsballett. Irina Averina and Sophia Carolina Fernandes will leave the Corps de Ballet. Anna Nevzorova is leaving for the Novosibirsk Ballet. From September Giorgia Sacher will dance at Milan's Teatro alla Scala Ballet and Freya Thomas will join the Norwegian National Ballet.
The Bayerisches Staatsballett wishes each and every one of them the very best for the future.

21 - 30 September 2018: A festival week for the anniversary

The entire building will be busy for all of 2018 with a special double anniversary: The Nationaltheater is 200 years old and the Bayerische Staatsoper celebrates the 100th anniversary of the day it was given over from royal ownership to the guardianship of the people of the young republic. The Bayerische Staatsoper has since been a place of regular discussion, of rejection and approval, but never, hopefully, of indifference. It is both loved and hated – alternating, concurrent, and mostly for an entire life long. All this and the double anniversary will be celebrated hailing the motto: LOVED, HATED.
We will celebrate this anniversary with a festival week at the beginning of the 2018/19 season. The program features three festival concerts with music ranging from classical to modern. Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, conducted by General Music Director Kirill Petrenko and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro will also take to the stage. Christian Gerhaher can be enjoyed with a lieder recital. The Festival Week will close with two performances of Christian Spucks Anna Karenina by the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
