Staatsballett in quarantine
We regret to inform you that the Swan Lake performances of the Bayerisches Staatsballett on 27 and 30 October 2020 will not be staged, as in line with the test strategy, first of all one Bayerisches Staatsballett member tested positive for Covid-19. In the suspected infection testing that followed immediately, five further cases were identified and isolated. As a safety measure, and to protect all other employees within our buildings, training and rehearsals will cease for the entire company until further notice. This measure will be implemented in accordance with the prepared action plans and in close coordination with the respective medical experts, who have been advising our institution since the summer months. The procedure serves in this respect as a comprehensive precautionary measure.
Consequently, the Bayerisches Staatsballett’s artistic staff will be in quarantine in the coming days until another full test has been made.
Since the season began, the Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Bayerische Staatsoper have been working with a comprehensive safety and hygiene concept, implemented in close coordination with the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety and the experts at Munich’s Klinikum rechts der Isar. The concept stipulates regular tests and behavioural rules with positive test results.
Contact tracing of the relevant people in question therefore began immediately after the first case of infection became known, to ensure the virus is contained as quickly as possible. As the Bayerisches Staatsballett works in fixed groups in the artistic area and every employee keeps a contact diary, all contact persons can be quickly located and informed.
Due to the suspension of work, in addition to training and rehearsals, the Swan Lake performances on 27 and 30 October 2020 must be cancelled. These will be replaced by opera performances of Macbeth and Madame Butterfly. Whether or not the Bayerisches Staatsballett’s suspension of rehearsals will affect the planned premiere of Paradigma on 3 November 2020 shall be decided in the coming days.
