MONTAGSSTÜCKE X & XI on STAATSOPER.TV
In the tenth edition of the live-streamed Montagsstücke-series, on Monday 18 January 2021 the Bayerische Staatsoper presents Franz Lehár’s operetta, Schön ist die Welt (How Fair the World), as staged by Tobias Ribitzki. Friedrich Haider conducts the Bayerische Staatsorchester. Julia Kleiter will sing the role of Prinzessin Elisabeth. Sebastian Kohlhepp can be enjoyed as Kronprinz Georg. Actor Max Hopp leads through the performance as conférencier.
With Montagsstück XI: Ardent Desire, on 25 January 2021, former General Music Director Zubin Mehta conducts inter alia music by Franz Schubert and Richard Strauss. Anja Harteros is the soloist.

MONTAGSSTÜCK IX: EIGHT SONGS FOR A MAD KING on STAATSOPER.TV
The Bayerische Staatsoper continues its series of live-streamed Montagsstücke (Monday pieces) from next Monday, 11 January 2021, with Peter Maxwell Davies' Eight Songs for a Mad King. The staged production already premiered in June 2020 at the reopening format Fester Samstag (Fixed Saturday). For Montagsstück X on 18 January, the Bayerische Staatsoper is planning an excursion into the operetta genre - details of which will be announced shortly.

MONTAGSSTÜCKE | CHRISTMAS SPECIAL ON STAATSOPER.TV
The Bayerische Staatsoper continues its series of Montagsstücke (Monday pieces). However, due to the current situation it will no longer transmit live, but rather presents pre-recorded productions on STAATSOPER.TV. This coming Monday, 21 December 2020, the programme features Oratorio de Noël, by Camille Saint-Saëns. The Staatsoper offers two free specials at once for the Christmas days: On 24, 25 and 26 December, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel as staged by Richard Jones and Swan Lake with the Bayerisches Staatsballett are provided for streaming. On 4 January 2021, Paradigma arrives for transmission as Montagsstück VIII. The remaining dates until the end of January will be announced at a later date.

Premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's FALSTAFF // Montagsstücke during December
Even if the cultural world is slightly standing still, the Bayerische Staatsoper keeps moving: Giuseppe Verdi’s last opera Falstaff will be premiered on 2 December 2020. The performance will be broadcast as a free live stream and will be available as video-on-demand on STAATSOPER.TV from 5 December 2020 onwards.

MONTAGSSTÜCK V: LA BOHÈME // PREMIERE FALSTAFF
On 30 November 2020, the 5th edition of the >em>Montagsstücke will be Giacomo Puccini's opera La bohème starring Rachel Willis-Sørensen and Jonas Kaufmann.
The premiere of Falstaff has been postponed to 2nd December 2020 and will be streamed live on STAATSOPER.TV. The opera is staged by Mateja Koležnik. Michele Mariotti is conducting the premiere.

End of the 2019/2020 season at the Bayerische Staatsoper
By order of the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art, the 2020 Munich Opera Festival will not be able to take place. Likewise, all remaining performances will be cancelled until the end of June 2020, thus ending the 2019/20 season of the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The 2020–2021 season at the Bayerische Staatsoper
General Manager Nikolaus Bachler headlines his final season at the Bayerische Staatsoper with POINT OF INFLECTION. “In his Sonnets to Orpheus, Rainer Maria Rilke describes art as movement, as a process that often ends with the beginning and begins with the end,” explains Nikolaus Bachler. “Following thirteen years as the Staatsoper’s General Manager, these sentiments conjure up not just the end, but rather and in particular also the ‘point of inflection’.”

Hans Abrahamsen’s first opera, The Snow Queen, celebrates its English-language premiere in Munich on 21 December 2019 in a staging by Andreas Kriegenburg. Barbara Hannigan, familiar with Abrahamsen’s music for some time now, sings the main role. Cornelius Meister conducts.

The Bayerische Staatsoper opens the 19/20 streaming season on 23 November 2019 at 7pm (CET) with Alban Berg's Wozzeck. Christian Gerhaher gives his Munich role debut in Andreas Kriegenburg's production. At his side Gun-Brit Barkmin sings Marie, Hartmut Haenchen takes over the musical direction.
