The Opera Festival 2017 will once again also host a ballet premiere: four young talents in the field of choreography have been asked by director Igor Zelensky, to create new pieces for the Bayerisches Staatsballett. The premiere of Ballet Evening - Young Choreographers will take place in the Prinzregententheater, Munich.
The 2017 edition of this from now on yearly programm will feature Andrey Kaydanovskiy, born in Russia in 1986 and demi-soloist at the Wiener Staatsballett, Austria. In 2016 he was award the German Dance Prize "Zukunft" ("Future"). Andrey is a storyteller, who takes us on a journey through the human history of evolution in his newly created piece "Discovery". Benoît Favre, 23-year-old is based at the Zurich Ballet and focuses on the harmony of movements and structure in his piece "Out of place". Among the four young choreographers is also the Russian Anton Pimonov (Mariinsky Theater), whose "Marimba Dances" has a touch of classical ballet, with a fresh and modern twist. Pimonov was educated at the Waganova School and has recently been award the "Golden Mask" in the category best choreography. All three choreographers have created pieces for their home compagnies before and now, for the first time, will be working with the Bayerisches Staatsballett. The home advantage surely lies with the fourth choreographer Dustin Klein.
In his piece "Mama, ich kann fliegen" the demi-soloist of the Bayerisches Staatsballett explores how we strive for freedom, ease and weightlessness.
