At the core of Le Corsaire is the love story between the Corsaire Konrad and the Greek Medora who is about to be sold to a Harem. Konrad has to abduct her twice before the two lovers can finally follow the call of love.

Undeniably, the Mariinsky Ballet is one of the best and most grand companies of the world. It unites both the overwhelming impression of the perfectly synchronised Corps de ballet and the astonishing and highly virtuoso solo performances of exceptional talents. Pyotr Gusev's reconstruction of Petipas classic Le Corsaire has been part of the Mariinsky Ballets repertoire for over 30 years. The epoch-making version is thereby an important showpiece of the company's stylistics. No other ensemble is as much a symbol for the revival of a classic in form of a contemporary dance interpretation as the Mariinsky Ballet.
