With Cecil Hotel Andrey Kaydanovskiy created a criminal ballet, that captivates the audience with its fresh and contemporary way of narrating the story. It was first performed in June 2019 as part of the À Jour – Contemporary Choreographies series. The story is based on the mysterious murder stories surrounding the notorious Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. Serial killers, criminals and a long list of shady figures used to stay there.

There were homicides that were never be completely solved and for this very reason gave rise to speculation. In Andrey Kaydanovskiy's evocation of this ominous place, different stories are linked together, different spaces are shown, and tense episodes about life and death are presented. Karoline Hogl, who is also responsible for the set for The Blizzard, has created a version of the Cecil Hotel for the theatrical stage that is full of subtleties. The sound collage by Dmitry Cheglakov includes tracks such as Que Sera, Sera with the Hollywood Orchestra, Women's Hour by Daphne Oram, Andrea Parker and Daz Quayle, and Death Waltz Fantasy by John Zorn. If you are afraid to spend the night in the real Cecil Hotel, this ballet production is recommended. Because that way you can claim to have been there anyway.

On April 16, 2021 Andrey Kaydanovskiy will present the world premiere of The Blizzard at the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
