Theme Concerts 2023/24

#BSOthemenkonzerte

Science and art come together in a creative way in the themed concerts. Established in 2010, the series will be organized from this season onwards in close cooperation between the Bavarian State Opera and our innovation partner Brainlab and will take place in the company headquarters at the tower of the former Munich-Riem Airport.

The evenings are dialogs between two manifestations of the human urge to explore: on the one hand in the form of lectures from basic research and applied science, on the other with music at the pulse of its time for chamber ensembles and similar formations. In the 2023-24 season, the new production of Mieczysław Weinberg's opera The Passenger provides an opportunity to present the chamber music work of this composer, who has only been widely recognized for a decade and a half, and to deal with questions of guilt and atonement, the perspectives of victims and perpetrators, coming to terms with the past and making amends, continuity or new beginnings: a complex that the Bayerische Staatsoper has increasingly devoted itself to since the research project "How one becomes what one is" and which has remained as topical as ever. Various disciplines from Brainlab's wide-ranging scientific network approach this topic in lectures and discussions, and the music brings the composer's personality to life in correspondence with other works.

If you buy tickets for all three concerts, you will receive the package price with a 20% discount.
