Cinderella

#BSBcinderella

After his family ballet Alice's adventures in Wonderland, choreographer Christopher Wheeldon returned to the Bayerisches Staatsballett in the 21/22 season with his version of Cinderella. Based on the composition by Sergei Prokofiev, Wheeldon has created an imaginative and endearing story ballet for all generations. Over 40 dancers in around 360 costumes by Julian Crouch are involved in the lavish production. The work, which was created in 2012 as a co-production between the Dutch National Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet, celebrated its German premiere in Munich in November 2021. Wheeldon's choreography is based on the fairy tale Cinderella by the Brothers Grimm and the French version by Charles Perrault. As in Alice in Wonderland, Wheeldon uses humour and imagination to develop a stage plot that is immediately accessible to the audience. The scenes are developed entirely from the famous ballet music by Sergei Prokofiev and cover a whole spectrum of moods and emotions. Cinderella is shown as a character who relies on the power of dreams to give her fate a new twist.
