Jacopo Bellussi

Jacopo hails from Genova, Italy. He began his training at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, then moved to the Royal Ballet School in London, where he graduated in 2011. In the 2011-12 season, he was a member Bayerisches Staatsballett 2, the junior company, performing in Na Floresta (Nacho Duato), Symphony in D (Jiří Kylián), Don Quijote (Ray Barra after Petipa) and Sleeping Beauty (Ivan Liška after Petipa). From 2012 through 2025 he was a member of Hamburg Ballett, first as a corps de ballet dancer, from 2017 onwards as a soloist and from 2019 onwards as a tprincipal dancer in 2019. In the 2024-25 season, as a guest, he was Étoile of the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse. Major roles during his time in Hamburg include Armand in Lady of the Camellias, Aminta in Sylvia, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Vronsky in Anna Karenina and Prince Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty (John Neumeier), Man in blue and purple in Dances at a Gathering (Jerome Robbins), solo in Liebeslieder-Walzer (Frederick Ashton), the second movement of Brahms Schoenberg Quartet and the main role in Who Cares? (George Balanchine). Over the course of his career, Bellussi has received numerous awards and honors, including the Danza&Danza Prize as “Best Italian Dancer Abroad” in 2016, the Konstanze Vernon Prize in 2019, the Premio Positano Léonide Massine per l’Arte della Danza in 2022 and the Premio Internazionale per la Danza Città di Foligno 2024 in the “Artist of the year” category. Despite his international success, Bellussi remains connected to his hometown of Genoa. After the Morandi Bridge collapse, he organized a charity gala in 2019 to support families affected by the tragedy. Several similar charity events followed. In November 2024, Jacopo Bellussi was appointed Artistic Director of the 2025 edition of Festival del Balletto di Nervi.
