UNICREDIT SEPTEMBERFEST 2023

Since the 2021-22 season, the UniCredit Septemberfest has been held every year at the beginning of the season. In line with the vision of State Director Serge Dorny, the highest artistic quality is made accessible to and experienced by a wider public. The idea is to open up to the city and region and to celebrate the start of the new season of the Bayerische Staatsoper together with all interested parties.  After the Opera for All concert on Marstallplatz on Friday, September 16, 2023, the front building and forecourt of the National Theater and the FÜNF HÖFE will be transformed into an agora to mark the start of the season in September 2023. There will be flash mobs, PopUp events, children's programs, games to participate in, and activities for everyone interested in the various art forms of the Bayerische Staatsoper. A special focus is on singing: children's choirs, opera choirs, school choirs, district choirs, the UniCredit Opera Choir and many more present their programs and invite young and every:n to sing along. On Saturday and Sunday, ballet and opera performances will take place on stage, there will be access to the in-house costume flea market from Maximilianstraße throughout the weekend, and on Saturday evening a jazz program invites visitors to the Rheingoldbar.

MUNICH OPERA FESTIVAL 2024

The tradition of the Munich Opera Festival dates back to 1875, when a "Festive Summer" was organized for the first time. This tradition continues under the directorship of Serge Dorny. The 2024 Munich Opera Festival will showcase the new productions of the season, based on the central theme of "A Fountain That Looks to Heaven." The Festival's two opera premieres, Le Grand Macabre by György Ligeti and Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy, present contemporary opera and a masterpiece of musical impressionism. One focus of the 2024 Munich Opera Festival will be on works by Giacomo Puccini and Richard Wagner. The program includes five works by the two, which are also among the most important operas in the repertoire: In addition to Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser and Parsifal, Giacomo Puccini's Tosca (a new production for the 2023/24 season), Il trovatore and La fanciulla del West will be featured. Puccini's Tosca will also be available as a live audiovisual broadcast on Max-Joseph-Platz at Opera for All during the 2024 Festival. Numerous chamber concerts and song recitals complete the program. The ballet evening Sphären.02 | Preljocaj will also premiere during the Festival. This will be complemented by the productions Le Parc by Angelin Preljoca and an evening created by Nacho Duato, Andrew Skeels and Sharon Eyal.
