Semele is the story of a woman who wants more from life than what has been destined for her. She flees her wedding to Athamas and drifts off into another world. Look forward to George Frideric Handel’s Baroque opera, featuring Louise Alder and Jakub Józef Orliński in the lead roles.
The new season kicks off with a celebration for everyone: On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Bayerische Staatsoper will open its doors for the UniCredit Opening Festival. A large sing-along concert on the steps of the Nationaltheater kicks off a diverse program featuring behind-the-scenes tours, concerts, dance performances, workshops, and hands-on activities for the whole family. Following the performance of Gioachino Rossini’s comic opera La Cenerentola, we’ll bring the day to a lively close with jazz and Broadway music.
“Thus the dynasty of the gods perished like a dying breath”: These words from the final scene of Richard Wagner’s Götterdämmerung serve as the poetic theme of our new season. Learn more about this in our season overview and browse through our program, which features ten opera premieres, two ballet premieres, a ballet gala, numerous concerts, a diverse selection of repertoire performances, and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
Every friday 11.00 am until 5.00 pm
