Bayerische Staatsoper Patronage societies
As diverse as the Bayerische Staatsoper is, so too are the engagement and focus points of our patronage societies. Would you like to also engage culturally and join one of the societies? Get to know our offers and services here and simply talk to us if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
The KIDS & CO programme of the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Bayerisches Staatsorchester is directed at children, youngsters and young adults. Tours through the Nationaltheater, youth workshops, the Opera Studio, the ATTACCA Youth Orchestra or the kids’ website, Maestro Margarini, for example, are all offered especially for them. The programme is an enthusiastic initiative for passing on knowledge and joy in music, theatre and dance as well as for talent support.
Our entire programme for children and young people is exclusively financed by private donations. So you too can contribute to ensuring these valuable projects and activities are maintained and expanded! Become a member of the Campus Friends, who have set themselves the goal of introducing young people from the most diverse social contexts to the exciting world of opera, orchestra and ballet. With your support you make a unique contribution to promoting our society’s cultural development.

GREETING BY JONAS KAUFMANN, CAMPUS FRIENDS AMBASSADOR
Dear Friends of the Bayerische Staatsoper,
It gives me great pleasure to address you as a Campus Friends Ambassador. This sponsoring society has set itself the task of supporting the diverse offers and projects of the Bayerische Staatsoper’s programme for children and young people.
Born, raised and musically shaped in Munich, I have a special relationship with the city and its opera house. Already when we were very young children our parents took myself and my sister to family performances together, which of course made a really strong impression on me.
So, based on my own experiences, I therefore know the enthusiasm that an early introduction to music can instil in children and young people. Unfortunately today many households and schools often have difficulties in doing this consistently and permanently.
And it is precisely here that the Campus Friends’ engagement is applied! The group’s members make an active contribution to inspiring children and young people, especially from socially disadvantaged families, to become interested and involved in music and the enthralling world of opera, ballet and concert.
So I would now like to cordially invite you to support this important programme together with me and enable many more offers and projects!
Yours Sincerely, Jonas Kaufmann
Campus Friends Ambassador

The association offers its currently approx. 1000 members the unique opportunity to develop a special closeness and relationship to the Nationaltheater as part of a strong community and to shape and participate in its development as a friend and supporter.
The association is inseparably connected with the success story of the National Theater and the cultural life in Munich. This society specifically supports new productions and further projects within the framework of the Munich Opera Festival. The Bayerische Staatsoper is subsidized with the donations and membership contributions collected by the society. The attractiveness of the annual Munich Opera Festival is consequently maintained and increased.
In line with its international artistic importance, the Munich Opera Festival should not be purely a high culture event for the few, but rather should awaken general interest in as many as possible. Approximately 450 opera friends are currently engaged ideationally, socially, journalistically and financially in this sponsoring society. Personalities from the realms of politics, culture and finance are active supporters. They act in line with the society’s basic patronage aim and also express this outwardly.
Since its foundation in 1958, it contributes to meetings and encounters between performers and opera friends with social events, and especially with the annual celebratory opening of the Munich Opera Festival. The “Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Opernfestspiele” also greatly values ensuring young talent is supported and specifically invests in the future.

ABOUT THE FRIENDS AND SPONSORS OF THE “MUSICAL ACADEMY OF THE BAYERISCHES STAATSORCHESTER E. V.”
Founded in 1530, the Bayerisches Staatsorchester is one of Europe’s oldest and most steeped-in-tradition orchestras. Renowned conductors such as Hans von Bülow, Bruno Walter, Hans Knappertsbusch, Joseph Keilberth, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Zubin Mehta and Kent Nagano have conducted the orchestra, and operas by Mozart, Wagner and Strauss have celebrated world premieres in Munich with the orchestra’s cooperation.
As one of the most important musical and cultural institutions of the Bavarian capital, the Bayerisches Staatsorchester is highly esteemed both nationally and internationally in equal measure. Invigorated by its high standards of quality, the orchestra also increasingly ensures the promotion of young and promising new talent. Quality and young talent cost money, which cannot be provided by the state alone.
Join the Staatsballett’s friends and also enjoy the affiliation with an exclusive group of ballet lovers. Come to rehearsals, absorb the backstage atmosphere and get to know the dancers as they enthusiastically get into their work.
