Amos Ben-Tal
Amos is a musician, choreographer and artistic leader of the artist-collective OFFprojects. After studying guitar in his youth, Amos completed his dance training in 1997 at The National Ballet School in Toronto, Canada. He then moved to Holland where he danced at Nederlands dans Theater (NDT) for nine years, making his choreographic debut in 2005 with the piece Track for NDT1. For this work Amos also composed the music and wrote the text. In 2006 Amos left NDT to dedicate himself to developing his own creations. Alongside his freelance choreography work, Amos started the alternative rock band "Noblesse" where he is lead singer and guitarist. The band toured extensively in the club circuit of the Netherlands. In 2012 Amos founded OFFprojects, an interdisciplinary collective of former dancers of NDT and Batsheva Ensemble. With his group he created several well-received performances among which Howl (winner of the Dioraphte Prize), Interval, PART and Songs And Silences, the latter featuring Amos’ choreography, music and poetry. As a composer Amos has collaborated with such choreographers as Johan Inger, Guillaume Cote, Lesley Telford and Edan Gorlicki and with such musicians as Ragazze Quartet, Salvador Breed, Ry-X and Shabaka Hutchings. For the past decade he has developed a particularly strong collaboration with choreographer duo Imre & Marne van Opstal, composing music for many of their works to date. Amos’ compositions have been used by such companies as NDT, Rambert, Lyon Opera Ballet, Schauspielhaus Bochum and Paris Opera Ballet among others.
