Luigi Bonino

Luigi Bonino was born in Bra, Italy. He began his career in Turin at the ballet school of the famous Susanna Egri. In 1973 Bonino joined the Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm as a soloist and in 1975 he was engaged by Roland Petit at the Ballet national de Marseille. Petit entrusted him with the principal roles in ballets such as Coppélia, Le Jeune Homme et la Mort, Notre-Dame de Paris, Le Fantôme de l’Opéra and La Chauve-Souris. Bonino was also appointed as Petit’s assistant in 1984 for the creation of Le Mariage du Ciel et de l’Enfer at the Ballet de la Scalain Milan. He carried on his assistant work until the death of Roland Petit in 2011 and has ever since been responsible for Petit’s oevre.
Luigi Bonino will perform the role of Dr. Coppélius at the premiere of Petit’s Coppélia in the Nationaltheater on 20 October 2019, a role Roland Petit initially interpreted himself.
