Joel Cadbury
ComposerLondon based electronic composer, Joel Cadbury has a career spanning film, commercials, documentaries, dance, and drama. His journey began as lead singer and songwriter in the band 'sOuth' signed to the Mo'Wax label in 1997, and later as a long term collaborator with James Lavelle's 'UNKLE'. In 2001 Joel co-wrote the score for Jonathan Glazer's cult film Sexy Beast, setting the stage for a more compositional approach to his work, exploring the intersection between music and the visual arts to a greater degree. More recent film credits include Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me (2010) and Russell Brand's political documentary TheEmperor's New Clothes (2014). In 2013 Joel was approached by Wayne McGregor to compose the score to Borderlands representing his first major work for the stage. This relationship has continued with the 2017 project Lightlens and most recently, the BBC2 TV programme Winged Bull in the Elephant Case (2018). Joel's distinctive approach fuses technological and organic landscapes to create sounds that feel part of us and yet otherworldly, with a passion for combining sound with the visual arts, be that dance, film, or narrative, expressing the liminal harmonies between the ear and eye.
