Hussein Chalayan
Born in Nicosia (Cyprus), the designer moved to the UK with his family in 1978 and graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 1993. He founded his own label in 1994, and in 1997 London's Victoria and Albert Museum included some of his creations in the exhibition ‘The Cutting Edge: 50 Years of British Fashion’. He was named ‘Designer of the Year’ at the British Fashion Awards in 1999 and 2000. In 2006, Queen Elizabeth II made him a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to fashion. In October 2015, the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London presented his work Gravity Fatigue, which was created in collaboration with Damien Jalet, Nick Hillel, Mode-F and Natasha Chivers. In addition to Faun, Chalayan also worked with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui as a costume designer for Mermaid in 2017, which was also presented at Sadler's Wells Theatre, in September 2017.
