Afonso Coelho

Afonso hails from Faro, Portugal. He received his professional training from 2018 to 2021 on a full scholarship at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of the American Ballet Theatre. During the 2021-22 season, he appeared as a member of the ABT Studio Company in three of the company’s own productions and was also cast in Alexei Ratmansky’s production of The Nutcracker for the main company. In the 2022-23 season, Afonso joined the Royal Danish Ballet, where he took on solo roles in works including Etudes (Harald Lander), Sleeping Beauty (Christopher Wheeldon), Symphony in C (George Balanchine), Come Fly Away (Twyla Tharp) and The Dante Project (Wayne McGregor).
In 2024, he received the Ole Nørlyngs Talentpris, offered by the "Ballettens venner" Friends Circle. In the 2026/2027 season, he joined Bayerisches Staatsballet as a corps de ballet member. 



Starting with the 2026-27 season, he will be a corps de ballet member of Bayerisches Staatsballett.
