Maira Fontes

Corps de ballet

Maira Fontes, born in Brazil, was trained at the Raleigh School of Ballet in North Carolina at the age of four. She continued her education at the Berkeley Ballet Theater in California and at the Nucleo de Arte e Danca in Vicosa/Brazil. At the age of thirteen she was priced with a gold medal and a special price for extra-ordinary performances at the IV. Festival de Dancas  do Mercosul.

1998 she received a scholarship from the government of Brazil and finished her dance education at the Ballett-Akademie/Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in Munich in 2001. After that she became a member of the Bavarian State Ballet.

During season 2002/2003 she danced a solo part in Jiří Kylián’s Bella Figura and debuted with the Spanish Dance in The Nutcracker (J. Neumeier). Her repertoire was enlarged in season 2004/2005 with William Forsythe’s Limb’s Theorem and in 2005/2006 with the Gypsy Women in Crankos Romeo and Juliet. Since 2006/2007 she is also seen in Elemental (Jacopo Godani), the Spanish Dance from Swan Lake and the Hindu Dance from La Bayadère.
