Wilfried Hösl

Wilfried Hösl was born in 1957 in Altendorf/Oberpfalz. He studied photo engineering at the university of Cologne. In 1983, after having worked as an assistant for various photographers, he was employed as a photographer at the Bavarian State Theatre. In 1987 his first exhibition was shown in Cologne (portraits 1983-87), further exhibitions were presented at the Quatrième Triennale de la Photographie in Charleroi, in the Centre d'Art Comtemporain in Brussels and in the Residenztheater in Munich. His photography was awarded with the European Kodak Award in 1991.
Since 1993 he has been photographer of the Bayerische Staatsopera, since 1996 he has also been engaged with the Bayerisches Staatsballett. He has held lectures in photography at the university of Salzburg (Mozarteum) from 1997 to 2010 and received the festival award of the organisation to promote the opera festival in Munich in 1998. His photographs are exhibited in the collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, in the Belgian photo museum and in private collections.
