Simon Krečič

The conductor and pianist completed his piano studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 2002 as the last graduate of the renowned Slovenian pianist Aci Bertoncelj. In 2005, he completed postgraduate piano studies in the class of Aleksandar Madžar at the Bern University of the Arts. During his postgraduate studies in Switzerland, he also began studying conducting under the mentorship of Dominique Roggen. In November 2008, he took part in the international conducting competition in Grosseto, Italy, where he won third prize. Since March 2009, he has been a regular guest conductor with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Slovenian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra. He completed his conducting studies in September 2012 at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of Milivoj Šurbek. Since December 2013, he has been artistic director of the opera at the Slovenian National Theater in Maribor. In February 2015, he conducted Verdi's opera Macbeth at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, and in October 2016, he conducted the opera I masnadieri at the Verdi Festival in Busseto in a production ofTeatro Regio in Parma. Further guest appearances include the opera houses in Ljubljana and Trieste, as well as the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. With Edward Clug, he has worked on the productions Carmina Burana, Les noces, and Le Sacre du printemps, as well as the story ballet Faust to music by Milko Lazar. In 2019, the municipality of Maribor awarded him the Glazer Certificate for outstanding achievements in the field of culture.
