Simon Murray

Simon J. Murray was born in Yorkshire, England. He studied music at Durham University and piano with several teachers including Professor Alexander Kelly from the Royal Academy of Music, London. He also holds a diploma from Trinity College, London.


At the age of 17 he took up his first post as Musical Director when he co-founded DabHand Performance Company. Among the many others he has worked with since then are: Royal National Theatre London, Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Openwide International, Europe's largest entertainment design company where he was responsible for all the music performed on many cruise ships around the world.

As a conductor Simon has worked with Northern Ballet Theatre, City Ballet of London and for Robert North's ballet The Snowman.

He has also worked extensively as a pianist with many leading companies like Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Mark Morris Dance Co., The Royal Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Rambert Dance Company, Mid Wales Opera and D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.
He has worked frequently as a singing teacher and music arranger, performed throughout the world and made many appearances on radio and television.

Since September 2002 he works as inspiring Correpetitor with the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
