James O'Hara
Born in Western Australia, James studied at the John Curtin College of the Arts in Fremantle and became a member of the Ballet Junior de Genève in 2003. Since then, he has worked with Ballet Preljocaj, the Australian Ballet and the Norwegian National Ballet, among others. Since 2006, James has repeatedly been involved in projects under the artistic direction or co-direction of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Apart from Faun, he has danced in Myth (2007) and Babel(words) (2010). He was Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's choreographic assistant on the creations Orbo Novo (2009), Labyrinth (2011), Noetic (2014) and Boléro (2013, co-created by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet with scenography by Marina Abramović). Together with Victoria Columbus, James was co-artistic director of the New Zealand Dance Company from 2020-2022. Since June 2022, he is co-director of STRUT Dance – The National Choreographic Centre in Boorloo (Perth) together with Sofie Burgoyne.
