Vello Pähn

Conductor

Vello Pähn studied choral and orchestral conducting first in Tallinn and then with Mariss Jansons in St. Petersburg. From 2012 to 2019, he was Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Estonian National Opera. Since 1988 he has also conducted performances abroad, including at the Opéra national de Paris, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Latvian National Opera in Riga, the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. From 2003 to 2007 he was principal conductor of the Finnish Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1992 he has also been regularly engaged by the Hamburg Ballet, where he has conducted numerous productions by John Neumeier. He will make his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper conducting John Cranko´s ballet Onegin in the 2023/24 season.
