Hans Pop

Hans Pop is a dancer, choreographer and director and was a close companion of Pina Bausch for part of his career. After his studies at the Folkwang University, Kurt Jooss engaged Hans Pop for the Folkwang Ballet, initially as a dancer. From 1965, the Folkwang Ballet also performed choreographies by Hans Pop. In 1968, he went to the Mannheim Theatre for three years and moved to Oldenburg three years later. Both theatres engaged him as a choreographer and training director. In 1973, Pina Bausch brought him to the Tanztheater Wuppertal as her assistant and dancer. Until the late 1980s, he was involved in the creation of 18 pieces and performed in nine of these productions.
