Alina Somova

Principal, guest (Mariinsky Ballet)

Alina Somova was born in Leningrad. She studied at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg and was admitted to the Mariinsky Ballet Company in 2003. One year later she was promoted to soloist and since 2008 she is the youngest prima ballerina of the company. She performed numerous title roles, such as The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Carmen, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet and Raymonda. Furthermore, she danced in La Bayadere, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide and Don Quixote and appeared as a guest in the greatest theatres all over the world, including Milan, Vienna, New York, Canada, Japan and China. Alina Somova received the Golden Mask in the category “Best Female Role” in 2009 for her role as Tsar Maiden in The Humpbacked Horse.

During the Ballet Festival Week 2019 Alina Somova will dance the solo role in Diamonds of George Balanchine’s Jewels.
