Rupert Tookey was a professional dancer for over 15 years and worked with various companies throughout Europe, most notably the Nederlands Dans Theater. He has a Master's degree in arts and cultural management and specialised in dance leadership. In particular, he advocates for better recognition of the profession and good working conditions for dancers. Since retiring as a professional dancer, he has worked as a curator and artistic producer for Nederlands Dans Theater and as deputy artistic director of Arts Umbrella Dance. Since 2022, he has served as Director of Artistic Operations for Ballet British Columbia. Alongside this, Tookey has restaged the works of Medhi Walerski, Marco Goecke, Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot for companies around the world.
