Ivan Vasiliev
Principal, guest (Mikhailovsky Ballet St. Petersburg)
Ivan Vasiliev took his first ballet classes in Dnepropetrovsk in Ukraine. At the age of twelve, he went to the ballet academy in Minsk. After winning the most important ballet competitions in the world in no time as a teenager – Perm (2006), Varna (2007), Prix Benois de la Danse (2009) – he rose to one of the most popular ballet dancers worldwide. The seventeen-year-old who was courted by the Bolshoi as well as the Mariinsky Ballet, followed the call to Moscow and became the Bolshoi Ballet’s most spectacular star. He gave his debut with the Bayerisches Staatsballett during the Ballettfestwoche in 2007 with the Bolshoi Ballet as Basilio in Don Quixote – at the side of Natalia Osipova.
During the following years, he danced all the leading roles the Bolshoi Ballet could offer him. At the same time he danced all over the world as a guest artist, for example with the American Ballet Theatre in New York. In 2011 he joined the Mikhailovsky Ballet in St. Petersburg as a principal dancer. Since 2015, Ivan Vasiliev also started working as a choreographer.
