The Bayerische Staatsoper is looking for choral singers in all voice groups for the newly founded Choir Academy of the Bayerische Staatsopernchor from September 14, 2026.
With over 400 events and 600,000 visitors a year, the Bayerische Staatsoper is one of the most renowned international cultural institutions. Over 40 opera productions from repertoires spanning five centuries and more than 20 ballet productions from the 19th century to the present day are performed in a single season, as well as concerts and recitals.
The main venue is the Munich National Theatre, the largest opera house in Germany and one of the most beautiful in Europe. Other venues include the Prinzregententheater and the Cuvilliéstheater. The Bayerische Staatsoper looks back on a rich history, but is forward-looking in its programme and ideas.
In the newly founded Choir Academy of the Bayerische Staatsopernchor, young singers are given the opportunity to gain the practical professional experience necessary for a career as an opera chorus singer, under highly professional conditions alongside experienced stage professionals from the Bayerische Staatsopernchor. They receive further musical and scenic training and are integrated into the opera programme of a large repertoire house. The choral academy students receive a monthly scholarship from the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Your requirements:
• Bachelor's, Master's or concert examination in singing at a music university or completed studies
• age limit: 28 years
• German language skills are desirable
• ability to sight-sing
• performing skills, interest for scenic work on stage
• ability to work in a team
• flexibility
• intercultural competence
What we offer you:
• a scholarship of euros 1000,- per month, which can be drawn tax-free

We accept applications via the portal muvac. Please include recordings of two arias with piano accompaniment along with your CV, and let us know what experience you have in ensemble singing and opera choruses.
Invitations to auditions will be sent by email. The compulsory arias and choir positions will be announced with the invitation. Unfortunately, travelling expenses to the audition cannot be reimbursed.
