ACADEMY CONCERTS

Magnificent symphonics, superb first soloists, renowned composers – the 2025–2026 season Academy Concerts promise enthralling performances with famous works and rarities, interpreted by both artistic personalities familiar to Munich audiences and by exciting newcomers. Privately organised concerts were referred to as “academies” in the 18th and 19th centuries, and were often staged by composers at their own risk. The Munich “Musikalische Akademie e.V.” society was founded in 1811 by members of the court orchestra of the day. These particular musicians wanted to establish a professional concert series in Munich. It was actually the city’s first symphonic concert series, whose programme still today is planned by an orchestra committee. This by now more than two hundred-year-old tradition of the Academy Concerts will also continue under the artistic direction of General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski, who himself will conduct two programmes. The season also features “academy” conductor debuts by Markus Poschner, Pablo Heras-Casado and Sebastian Weigle.  We can also look forward with baited breath to Kirill Petrenko’s return. Two musicians from our own ranks can be enjoyed in solo concertos: Principal cellist Yves Savary and principal trumpet Johannes Moritz. Piano highlights are performed by Daniil Trifonov and Beatrice Rana, both appearing for the first time as Academy Concert guests.
