Themed concerts 2026

Science and art meet in the most creative way in our themed concerts. The series established in 2010 is organised in close cooperation between the Bayerische Staatsoper and its innovation partner, Brainlab. The performances are dialogues between two manifestations of human scientific curiosity – from one side in the form of reports from basic research and applied science; from the other with music in tune with the times for chamber ensembles and similar arrangements. In the 2025–2026 season, Brett Dean’s opera, Of One Blood, provides an opportunity to take a closer look at the Australian composer’s work and the conflicts of this material. Various disciplines from Brainlab’s wide-ranging scientific network focus on this topic in specialist presentations, while selected works will develop different aspect’s of Brett Dean’s musical language. The themed concerts based on the interplay of art and science will thus appeal to the senses and the mind in equal measure.
