Themed concerts 2027
Science and art meet in the most creative way in our themed concerts. The series established in 2010 is organised in close cooperation between the Bayerische Staatsoper and its innovation partner, Brainlab. The performances are dialogues between two manifestations of human curiosity – on one hand in the form of research and applied sciences reports, on the other with music in tune with the times for chamber orchestras and similar arrangements.
In the 2026/27 season, the Ja, Mai-Festival provides the content and musical stimuli for the season’s themed concerts. “Resistance” is the element connecting the musical theatre pieces performed with Ja, Mai. The three performances at Brainlab will focus on two of them, Gordon Kampe's monodrama, The Chalk in the Wolf’s Mouth, and Diana Syrse's chamber opera, Liberty (based on an original libretto by Sofi Oksanen), as well as the work of Munich composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann. The composers’ music is presented by way of example, and various disciplines from its wide-ranging scientific network address the resistance topic in professionally delivered lectures. The themed concerts based on the interplay of art and science will thus appeal to the senses and the mind in equal measure.
