Davide Bombana
Choreographer
Italian choreographer Davide Bombana was born in Milano on December 24, 1958 where he studied ballet at the Ballet School of La Scala and was successfully graduated in 1977. He made his debut in the same year in the title role of M. Béjart Firebird with "La Scala Ballet" where from corps de ballet he was promoted to soloist and then principal. He perfomed as principal dancer in ballets by M. Béjart, G. Tetley, R. Nureyev, J. Robbins, G. Balanchine and L. Falco.
He won the "Positano Price". He pursued his carreer further in Pennsylvania Ballet (Philadelphia), Scottish Ballet (Glasgow), London Festival Ballet (London) coming back as guest in La Scala for Cranko Romeo and Juliet and R. Petit Proust. He worked at the Bayerische Staatsballett (Munich) as a principal dancer from 1986-1991 and as a choreographer from 1991-1998. His first choreography Sonata, created for Anna Villadolid, had its world premiere in Manila and was then presented in Munich and Dresden.
For Munich he created the following choreographies: Parabel, Quatour pour la fin du temps, Okanagon, Woyzeck Fragmente inspired by Büchner, Schönberg opus 4 and the two full lengths ballets Luigi Nono Project, with costumes and stage design by Dorin Gal for which he was awarded the Bavarian Theater Prize of dance in 1997, and Ein Traumspiel inspired by Strindberg, for which he received the international Prix Benois in Moskau in spring 1998.
In 1998 Davide Bombana was appointed director of the company Maggio Danza in Florence where he restaged Woyzeck Fragmente and Schönberg opus 4 and created the full lengths ballet Teorema inspired by Pasolini.
In the last years Mr. Bombana has been working with different companies in many countries as a guest choreographer. He has choreographed and restaged Aus der Ferne, Beyond Skin (both Ballet du Rhin France, Queensland Ballet Australia), Woyzeck Fragemente (Ballet du Rhin, Zaragoza Ballet in Spain, Florence and Basel), Suite En Noir (Paris Conservatoire, John Cranko Schule Stuttgart), Septième lune (Ballet del’opera National de Paris), Tenebrae (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe) Harpsichord concerto (New York Choreographic Institute NYCB), Camera Oscura (New York Choreographic Institute ABT), IPNOS (Accademia Teatro alla Scala), Carmen (Wiener Staatsballett; National Ballet of Canada) and LeSacre du printemps (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe). During the last years he has also produced pieces on literary model like Cinderella, Eine Faust-Symphonie oder Liaison Dangereuse.
