Anna Buchenhorst

Pianist

Anna Buchenhorst grew up in the north of Sweden where she started playing the piano at an early age. Her studies led her to the Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama, where she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree under Professor Stella Tjajkovski, followed by studies in Piano and Chamber Music at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. Having attended a series of masterclasses as well as privat studies by Peter Feuchtwanger in London, she consolidated her studies with a course in classical piano improvisation at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

In 2002 Anna Buchenhorst was engaged both as both orchestral and rehearsal pianist at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, and over the years has performed numerous piano concerti with the Royal Court Orchestra in Stockholm, including Tschaikovsky’s first piano concerto, Shostakovich´s first piano concerto and Poulenc´s double concerto. For the past thirty years Anna has played in a piano duo with Swedish pianist Per Rundberg with whom she has performed numerous concerts throughout Europe.

She has toured the USA and Asia with the Royal Swedish Ballet and has collaborated with the Royal Danish Ballet, in Copenhagen. She has also made several recordings for radio and television in various countries.

As a ballet pianist Anna Buchenhorst has worked with some of the most successful choreographers, dancers and ballet masters of our time, such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mats Ek, Dame Beryl Grey and John Neumeier.

Most recently she has joined the team of ballet pianists at the Bavarian State Ballet.
