Marija Djordjevic
Costume Designer
Marija Djordjevic is an accomplished Canadian designer with over 20 years of experience, and over 70 designs to her name. She holds a Master's degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor's degree in Costume and Fashion Design from the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. Throughout her career, Marija Djordjevic has worked with some of the most renowned dance companies in North America, including the Juilliard School in New York City, the Cedar Lake Dance Company (NYC), the Complexions Dance Company (NYC), multiple shows for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., to name a few. She also had the pleasure of designing for NDT. In her work, Marija Djordjevic is passionate about finding a balance between an intricate cut, groundbreaking design, and comfort of the performer. She likes to be on the cutting edge of developments in the field of costume, newest technologies as well as deconstructing historical fashions to arrive at a new value. Marija's artistic work has garnered her numerous awards and nomination in the field of costuming, including the USITT's Z. Weisfeld award for Costume Design, a nomination for the New York Innovative Award in Design, and Montreal's META award. She has also been invited to participate in several renowned design exhibitions, such as the Prague Quadrennial, and the "100 Years of Outstanding Women Designers" exhibition at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
