The three choreographies of this new Triple Bill, which opens the Ballet Festival Week 2024, revolve around different forms of escaping the world. After Bedroom Folk by Sharon Eyal, which was first shown at the Bayerisches Staatsballett as part of Paradigma in 2020, Autodance is the second work by the Israeli choreographer and her artistic partner Gai Behar. With the Greek prefix "auto", Eyal refers to a dance that refers purely to itself and poses the question of its own identity. It finds fulfillment in a form that obeys very individual laws, while at the same time longing for an echo from society. Ori Lichtik has created a multi-layered electronic beat, which is reminiscent of excessive party nights as well as outer worldly harmonies of the spheres.
For Nacho Duato, the trigger for White Darkness was the death of his sister. The work was created for the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid and deals with the fatal pull of drugs. This is accompanied by the second Adiemus variation for string quartet by Karl Jenkins, which, with its mesmerizing effect, captures in sound the Mephistophelic quality of the sweet poison.
The North American Andrew Skeels, who is working with the Bayerisches Staatsballett for the first time, will create a world premiere. His choreographic language is characterized by a cinematic aesthetic characterized by speed, flowing movements and a willingness to take risks.
