Thomas Klein

Since 2004, in addition to his work as a ballet master and choreographic assistant, Thomas Klein has dedicated himself to rehearsing and staging Nacho Duato's ballets for renowned theatres and companies worldwide. Born in Stuttgart, he completed his dance training at the John Cranko Ballet Academy and had his first engagement at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. In 1988, Patrick Dupond engaged him as first soloist for the Ballet National de Nancy (France), where he performed in productions by Hans van Manen, Jiří Kylián, John Neumeier, Birgit Cullberg, George Balanchine, Roland Petit, Ulysses Dove, José Limón and Vaslav Nijinsky, Nils Christie and David Parson. This was followed by a year at the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon (France), where he worked with Maguy Marin, Bill T. Jones and Angelin Preljocaj. In 1994, Nacho Duato engaged him as first soloist for the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid. Here, Thomas Klein performed in works by Nacho Duato as well as in productions by Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek and William Forsythe. From 2007 to 2011, he also worked as a ballet master and choreographic assistant for the Compañía Nacional de Danza. He also held this position at the Staatsballett Berlin from 2015 to 2018. Among the theatres where Thomas Klein has supervised productions are the Paris Opera Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, Norwegian National Ballet, Monte Carlo Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Mikhailovsky Theatre, Hong Kong Ballet, Vienna State Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
