Julien Favreau
Born in La Rochelle, France, in 1977, Julien Favreau trained at the Ecole nationale de musique et de danse in his hometown and, from 1994, at the École-atelier Rudra Béjart in Lausanne. In 1995, he joined the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, where Béjart subsequently created roles for him in Zarathoustra, Le chant de la danse, L'amour – la danse, Elton Berg, La route de la soie, Enfant-Roi and Casse-noisette. He was also cast in prominent roles in repertoire pieces such as Le sacre du printemps, Serait-ce la mort?, Brel et Barbara and Bhakti. After Gil Roman took over as director of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne in 2007, Favreau danced the solo part in Boléro, among other roles, and was also featured in prodcutions such as Sonate à trois, La XIe Symphonie and Wien, Wien, nur du allein. He was frequently cast in new creations by Gil Roman, as well as in works by guest choreographers such as Sthan Kabar-Louet, Tony Fabre, Marc Hollogne, Yuka Oishi and Valentina Turcu. In 2012, Julien Favreau received the Premio Positano ‘Léonide Massine’ in the category ‘Dancer of the Year’.In March 2024, Julien Favreau was appointed interim artistic director of the Bêjart Ballet Lausanne, and he has held the position permanently since September 2024.
