Marlene Gomes

Marlene Gomes was born in Portugal. After completing her musical training with Hugo Ribeiro in her home country, she earned her Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honours under Thomas Indermühle at the University of Music in Karlsruhe. As a scholarship recipient of both the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Deutschlandstipendium, she went on to complete her Master's degree in Nick Deutsch’s class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Leipzig in 2024, also graduating with honours.
At the 2024 ARD Music Competition, she reached the semi-finals and was awarded the Alice Rosner Prize. She has also won several other prizes, including third prize and the English Horn Prize at the renowned Muri Competition in Switzerland.
She has gained orchestral experience performing with various orchestras on temporary contracts, including the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Since March 2022, she has been the principal English horn player with the Bavarian State Orchestra.
