Jonathan Howells

English dancer Jonathan Howells was a Ballet Master and Character Artist of The Royal Ballet. He trained at The Royal Ballet School and graduated into the Company in 1991. He was promoted to Soloist in 1997. Howell’s repertory has included Lescaut (Manon), Bratfisch (Mayerling), Lewis Carroll/White Rabbit (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland), Antigonus (The Winter’s Tale), Widow Simone and Alain (La Fille mal gardée), Bottom (The Dream), Bluebird and Puss-in-Boots (The Sleeping Beauty), Hilarion (Giselle), Sancho Panza (Don Quixote), Jester and Step-Sister (Cinderella). He has created a large number of roles for The Royal Ballet, including in Twyla Tharp’s Mr Worldly Wise, Christopher Wheeldon’s Souvenir, Tryst and Strapless. Jonathan Howells was appointed Ballet Master for the Royal Ballet in 2016 and coached many ballet productions. He is assistant choreographer to Alastair Marriott and helped stage productions by Christopher Wheeldon like his Winter´s Tale for the Bolshoi and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for the Royal Danish Ballet. After leaving the Royal Ballet in 2019 he continues to stage ballets worldwide, designs costumes and creates figurative and abstract works of art.
