Elena Mednik
Pianist
Elena Mednik was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. During her school years, she was a prize-winner at national piano competitions and already performed with symphony orchestras. She completed her studies at the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, graduating as a concert pianist. During this time, the young pianist won prizes at the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau and the J. S. Bach Competition in Saarbrücken. In Germany, she completed postgraduate studies in piano at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. During this time Elena Mednik took part in various master classes and gave numerous concerts in many German cities, including Munich. From the beginning of the 2001/02 season, the pianist was engaged as a répétiteur at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, where she performed as a soloist in numerous ballet and chamber music recitals.
In autumn 2008 Elena Mednik began working as a repetiteur at the Bayerisches Staatsballett. Here, in addition to rehearsal and orchestral duties, she performs as solo pianist in the company's performances and creates chamber music programmes, among others with Arben Spahiu, the deputy concertmaster of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester. Important ballet productions in which Elena Mednik has participated as a pianist include choreographies by José Limón (music: Chaconne by J. S. Bach/F. Busoni, Piano Concerto No. 1 by Camille Saint-Saëns), Jerome Robbins In the Night (music: four Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin) and Goldberg Variations (music: J. S. Bach), John Neumeier Lady of the Camellias (music: piano works by Frédéric Chopin), Maged Mohamed Petrushka (music: piano version of the orchestral work by Igor Stravinsky) and Alexei Ratmansky Pictures at an Exhibition (music: piano cycle by Modest Mussorgsky).
