Christopher Moulds
Christopher Moulds was born in Halifax, UK, and studied piano and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music in London. He has given guest performances at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Semperoper Dresden, the Opernhaus Zürich, the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Berliner Staatsoper, the Theater an der Wien and the Komische Oper Berlin, as well as at the festivals in Salzburg, Bregenz and Glyndebourne. Moulds has devoted himself to works ranging from Monteverdi, Handel and Mozart to Britten's The Turn of the Screw and contemporary operas such as Birtwistle's Punch and Judy. He made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 2002 with Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, the revival of the premiere from 2001, where he was already Musical Assistant to Ivor Bolton. He will be back in the 2022/23 season with the new production Il ritorno / The Year of Magical Thinking, an adaptation of Monteverdi's opera with a text by Joan Didion by director Christopher Rüping.
