Susanne Steinmassl
Susanne Steinmassl, born in Freilassing, is a freelance director and video artist. She studied Directing at the University of Television and Film Munich and Media Art with Julian Rosefeldt at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. Previously, she completed her Master's degree in Modern German Literature, Politics and Philosophy at the LMU Munich. Her work has screened nationally and internationally at festivals, exhibitions, and galleries (including Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, MIEFF Moscow, Kunstverein München, KINO DER KUNST, Digital Choc Tokyo, DOK Leipzig). Since 2018, Steinmassl has regularly developed video works for theater and opera. She has worked with Pınar Karabulut (Münchner Kammerspiele, Schauspiel Köln), Christopher Rüping (Thalia Theater, Münchner Kammerspiele) and Marco Štorman (Oper Stuttgart), among others. With the 10-hour play Dionysos Stadt at the Münchner Kammerspiele, she was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2019 as part of Christopher Rüping's team. In the 2022/23 season, Steinmassl will make her debut with the new production Il ritorno / The Year of Magical Thinking at the Bavarian State Opera. (Status: 2023)
