Malte Ubenauf
Malte Ubenauf first worked as a director before joining Christoph Marthaler at the Zurich Schauspielhaus as a dramaturge in 2003. He was then engaged by Frank Castorf at the Berlin Volksbühne and at Hamburg's Thalia Theater. Since 2005 he has worked primarily as a freelance dramaturg for drama and musical theater. He has accompanied productions by Karin Henkel, Stefan Pucher, Luk Perceval, among others, and works continuously with Christoph Marthaler, Anna Viebrock, Christiane Pohle, as well as with the Berlin opera company Novoflot. In addition, he has been festival dramaturge of the Münchener Biennale since 2016. Stations in his theater career have included the Teatro Real Madrid, the Zurich Opera House, the Opéra national de Paris, Theater Basel, the Ruhrtriennale, the Hamburg State Opera, and the Salzburg and Bayreuth Festivals. In 2021 he was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen for his joint work on Einfach das Ende der Welt with director Christopher Rüping. At the Bavarian State Opera he worked with Christoph Marthaler on Lear by Aribert Reimann and his own version of the operetta Giuditta. In the 2022/23 season he is dramaturg of the new production Il ritorno / The Year of Magical Thinking. (as of 2023)
