Joke Visser
Costumes
Born in The Hague and trained at the Rotterdamse Snijschool, Joke Visser ran a costume studio from 1976 to 1987, which received commissions from the Dutch National Ballet, the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) and the Dutch National Opera, among others. In 1987 she was appointed to the costume department of the NDT, which she took over two years later. Since then, she has designed the costumes for almost all of Jiří Kylián's newly created works, including Falling Angels (1989), Petite Mort (1991), Wings of Wax (1997), Click Pause-Silence (2001), Birth-Day (2001), 27'52" (2002), Sleepless (2004) and Gods and Dogs (2008). She also designed the costumes for Kylián's piece Doux Mensonges (1999), which was created for the Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris. She oversees the costume design for performances of Kylián's works around the world. She has also worked several times with Jorma Elo, Crystal Pite, Medi Walerski and Sol León & Paul Lightfoot. With the aformentioned duo, she collaborated on Schmetterling (2010), which has since found its way into the repertoire of the Bayerisches Staatsballett.
