The following scenarios are chosen based on the current Infection Protection Measures Ordinance:
• The currently applicable “3G” rule (vaccinated/recovered/tested) with compulsory mask, catering without serving alcohol*
• “3G+” rule (vaccinated/recovered/negative PCR test [no rapid tests]) with compulsory mask, catering as before the pandemic
• “3G+” rule (vaccinated/recovered/negative PCR test [no rapid tests]) without compulsory mask, catering as before the pandemic
• “2G” rule (vaccinated/recovered) with compulsory mask, catering as before the pandemic
• “2G” rule (vaccinated/recovered) without compulsory mask, catering as before the pandemic
*The current 14th Infection Protection Measures Ordinance stipulates in § 4 Para. 2 No. 2 that a general ban on alcohol applies to events with more than 1,000 people, where the 3G rule is applied. Only with 3G+ and 2G does this ban on alcohol not apply.
SURVEY AND RESULTS
Survey period: Mon. 11 October 2021 to Fri. 15 October 2021
33,379 addresses were written to.
4,748 people took part in the survey.
The most important findings first:
• 93% of all survey participants are vaccinated
• Scenarios that include an obligation to wear a mask are predominantly (59% to 70%, depending on segment) referred to as socially responsible
• The majority of subscribers (73%) and ticket buyers (73%) would visit more or considerably more events and not change the current visitor behaviour, if a 3G+ rule were to be introduced
In detail, the survey revealed the following results:
• The average survey participant is just under 61.6 years old, comes from Munich, is male or female and is vaccinated.
• Almost all survey participants are vaccinated (93%). The majority of visitors therefore attended the Bayerische Staatsoper with a vaccination certificate; 1% came with proof of recovery from the virus, and 6% with an antigen test.
• 44% of those that answered the questionnaire were subscribers. 27% do not have a subscription, but visited a performance in recent weeks, and 29% have not yet bought a ticket this season.
• 24% decided not to visit a performance due to concerns related to a risk of infection. 24% were unhappy with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
• As with our last visitor survey in 2020, more than 90% of the survey participants are happy with the measures to reduce the risk of infection and generally feel safe both when entering and exiting the theatre.
• The majority of subscribers (66%), ticket buyers (63%) and those that were regularly at the Bayerische Staatsoper before Covid-19 (65%) believe the obligation to wear a mask is correct, but believe the ban on serving alcohol (65%/70%/61%) is unreasonable. Understanding for the obligation to wear a mask is extremely high – even with those 50% that feel essentially impaired during the cultural experience by wearing a mask.
• Scenarios that include an obligation to wear a mask are predominantly (59% to 70%, depending on segment) referred to as socially responsible. Nevertheless, according to those surveyed, a 2G rule (vaccinated/recovered) without compulsory mask under catering conditions as before the pandemic (so with alcohol served) would result in the Staatsoper’s highest possible utilisation.
• After introduction of the 3G+ rule (vaccinated/recovered/negative PCR test [no rapid tests]) without compulsory mask with catering as before the pandemic the majority of subscribers (73%) and ticket buyers (73%) would visit (considerably) more events and not change the current visitor behaviour. A quarter of those that were at the Bayerische Staatsoper regularly before Covid-19 would visit (considerably) more events.
• It will be difficult to motivate those who currently do not buy tickets with adjusted rules for visitors alone. Among this group the 2G rule (vaccinated/recovered) without compulsory mask and with catering as before the pandemic is considered the most sensible measure – it would motivate 35% of this group to visit the Staatsoper again.
