Exhibition Rirkrit Tiravanija

The work of Rirkrit Tiravanija (b. 1961, Buenos Aires) will be on view in May at various locations in House of art in a decentralised exhibition. The presentation coincides with the production of Toshio Hosokawa's opera Hanjo, which is being performed in the West Gallery of House of art in cooperation with the Bayerische Staatsorchester and for which Tiravanija is designing the set. Tiravanija's practice focuses on the artistic production of social engagement, often inviting viewers to animate, participate in and activate his works by engaging them in communal rituals and actions - as in his culinary performances. Over the course of his thirty-year career, he has integrated installations, painting, printmaking, video, photography, mixed-media assemblages and music into his work, always emphasising the aspect of different cultural spaces and temporalities.
