During the civil war of the 16th century, the potter Genjûrô and his brother-in-law Tôbee strive for wealth and prestige. To realise their goals, the two men move to the city, but at the end of the journey they have to realise that the price of their dreams was too high ... This film is based on a collection of Japanese ghost stories and was awarded the "Silver Lion" at the 1953 Venice International Film Festival.
